Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Briel ES62AF L'Expresso Automatic Cadiz Espresso MachineCustomer Review: The Best Home Espresso Machine I've used! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this thing. I received it as a gift about six months ago. I've used it nearly everyday multiple times a day. The fact that the espresso pulls are automatically timed is one of the reasons this machine is so great. No more of that "burnt" taste from too long of a pull. I didn't study to be a barista, but I make perfect caf' lattes, americanos and cappuccinos over and over again.
The second great thing about this machine is how fast it heats up and the recovery time between cups is very short. I've used it when company was over fixing cup after cup. With no one waiting a long time for their cup. I've actually donated my coffee maker to Goodwill because I only use this.
The frother is great too. I've used other "specially engineered frothers" and they don't do nearly as good of a job. I bought a stainless steal (wide) milk frothing pitcher and the combo works perfectly.
The only concern I had (still have) is that the handle on the grounds holder will break because it is plastic and I use it a lot. If it does break I will by a two replacements to make sure I don't go without this machine.
Bottom line. I love it!
OK so it is November 2006. I'm still using the machine every day and I still love it. I've had to replace the filter and the grounds holders (the plastic flip clip that holds the metal cup in place when you dump the grounds has broken (twice) I now use them without the clip but the handles themselves have shown no signs of wear.
It still works like a charm and I've only had to do normal maintenance (CLR to get rid of build-up) cleaning etc.
So it is November 2008 - Wow.. I've had this little thing for 4 years now and it is still going great. Daily use for morning shots have not stopped it working. I haven't had to have a single repair other than the handles I mentioned earlier. It still heats fast and works fine with the simple maintenance of cleaning it as you would any water-heating appliance.
I am going to "hack" it soon, 4 years is long enough to own it without tearing into it :-) I am going to install a digital thermometer as described in MAKE magazine and see how if it helps the quality of the coffee. if I ruin it I'll cry a bit and go out and get another one ;-)
I am still concerned about if my machine needs a repair, It seems to be the thing people complain about most.
Description of Briel ES62AF L'Expresso Automatic Cadiz Espresso MachineBriel Cadiz Auto Espresso Maker ES62 A FB Coffee Brewer Briel's Cadiz espresso machine is backed by the company's 30-plus years in the coffee business, and it shows--this model's designed to present café-quality espresso and cappuccino to the home user. To get this high quality, the Cadiz has a number of extraordinary features, starting with its Auto Espresso Flow system. This system lets you set the coffee strength according to taste, from a stronger, Italian-style short cup to a larger, less robust brew. The espresso is brewed at the required 190 degrees F, and the machine has 15 bars of pump pressure. And it's speedy, brewing two cups in about 35 seconds. It also makes good cappuccino, because of its included frothing wand. Some other nice features include a Cremaker filter, which provides a richer crema on each espresso, and a removable water tank. In shining stainless steel and sturdy black plastic, this machine won't shame any counter. It has 1,260 watts of power and measures 9-3/4 by 11-1/4 by 9-3/4 inches (length by height by depth). --A.J. RathbunEditor's note: This item may arrive with water inside from the manufacturer's pressure test. This is a normal occurrence and doesn't point to a problem with the machine.
